We are responsible for providing a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) for all qualifying disabled students within our district boundaries. This is essentially the definition of Special Education. We are also required by law to have students in the General Education classroom as much as possible, commonly called the Least Restrictive Environment.
Recent research shows that keeping special education students in the general education classroom with their non-disabled peers results in the best outcomes for all students. The use of Google Classroom allows the general education teacher to provide Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) in the general education classroom without making it obvious that the work looks different. SDI can be created by the general education or special education teacher.
