CFISD SOLO & ENSEMBLE CONTEST (Required, Major Grade)

Friday - Saturday, January 30 - 31

Spillane Middle School – 13403 Woods-Spillane Blvd., Cypress TX 77429

Arrive to Spillane MS at least 45-60 minutes before your first scheduled performance! (Plan for traffic!)

Parking/Student Drop-Off will be available in the bus turnaround parking lot on Spillane-Robison Rd., located by the Cafeteria.

Parent Support – Parents are welcome to attend this event to support your child.

Contest Information

Semi-Formal Attire is required! (No Tennis Shoes, No Jeans!)

Warm-Up/Case Storage will be held in the Cafeteria. You are not allowed to play your instrument in any other part of the building!

Arrive at your performance room at least 15 min. before your scheduled performance time! This contest tends to run ahead of schedule. Be prepared to go before your assigned time 😊

Results will be available shortly after your performance; you are dismissed after your last scheduled performance.

Please remember that your child has made a commitment to perform their Solo and Ensemble (if applicable) for a Major Grade at this contest.  Please let us know if you have any questions by emailing Mr. Prado at mario.prado@cfisd.net

Your student received the attached letter in class regarding participation in the CFISD Solo & Ensemble Contest on Friday, January 30th and Saturday, January 31st. This contest will be held at Spillane Middle School (13403 Woods-Spillane Blvd., Cypress, TX 77429) and students will receive individual performance days and times when we return from winter break. At this contest, a judge will listen to students perform a solo as well as an ensemble piece. The judge will then give the students a rating ranging from first to fifth division. Our goal is to continue our tradition of success, by having students earn as many First Division “Superior” ratings as possible!

Participation in this event requires students to:
1. Be academically eligible (Passing all classes by the 2nd Grading Period Report Card)
2. Dress in Semi-Formal Attire or Formal Concert Uniform:
• Dress or Suit + Tie (Optional)
• Collar Dress Shirt
• Dress Pants (No Jeans!)
• Dress Shoes (No Tennis Shoes!)
3. Pay Non-Refundable Fees via SchoolCash by Friday, February 6, 2026

1. Entry Fee of $12.00 per solo (woodwind, brass, & percussion)

2. Entry Fee of $12.00 per ensemble (qualifying woodwind, brass, & percussion)

3. Piano Accompanist Fee of $30.00 per solo (woodwind & brass only)
