Act 1- Watch Peas in a Pod video
-Record what you think, notice, and wonder
Act 2- Predict how many peas in each pod
-Make a model and draw a picture (remember the most important part is the thinking process- not the answer)
Act 3- What do you notice?
Order to integrate suits:
1. One-to-One correspondence
2. Correct counting sequence
3. Cardinality (last number represents the same set)
-Always remember to constantly change what is being counted using regular classroom items/supplies. The students should also be able to draw a picture of the representation as well.
-Example: Start Counting Collection Wednesday to help establish counting routine each week. Have the students draw the collection in their journal or in Seesaw
-Spacial relationships are key! The students need to practice counting backwards. It is acceptable if the students use their hands to count.

-Build criteria for Expert, Practitioner, Apprentice, and Novice
-Reflection and Closure guidelines
*Remember that 0-20 is the minimum of Kinder requirements.
Criteria-
Expert- above grade level (Turning over 2 ten frame cards)
Practitioner- right on grade level (Double 10 frame cards)
Apprentice- tier 2 (Cannot handle ten frame and must count one to one)
Novice- tier 3 (No cardinality)
-You can use the Tiny Polkadot cards, or manipulative size 10 frame cards. You could also use 10 sided dice or spinner. They can look at tallies also. They must have some representation of the number.
-Students can use a placeholder to remind them where they are in their counting so they do not have to start over.
*Differentiation- students write the number sentence they use
Have ten frame models of numbers of numerical representations: manipulative sized ten frame cards, numeral cards
Paper sacks- 1 for every 2 people
Unifix cubes- 10 per bag is on level (The number of cubes depends on what your students need.)
Ten frames- some students will need to organize into doubles on the ten frame to keep organized.
Rekenreks
Number lines 0-20
Recording sheet at least two equations and a number bond or two different sentences.- They can write it as tally marks to help them understand the parts.
The winner gets to 5 doubles.
There is an interactive applet on illuminations.nctm.org that allows children more opportunities to apply these skills after they determine methods that are generalizable.
