Calculator Contract

Students will be allowed to use one of Truitt Middle School’s TI-84/TI-84+ calculators in class as long as they and their parents agree to the following guidelines.

  • I will use my assigned calculator and will not use a calculator with a different number unless I have permission from the teacher.
  • I will get my assigned calculator from the caddy upon entering the classroom and gently return my calculator to the caddy in the appropriate slot at an appropriate time. I will treat the calculator with care, respect and make special effort not to drop it.
  • If my calculator is missing, I will notify the teacher immediately. I will use my calculator in the classroom only and will not take it out of the classroom without the teacher’s permission.
  • The calculator will be used as an instructional tool, not a toy:
      1. I will not touch the calculator screen with any object other than my finger.
      2. I will not write on the screen, keys, plastic or any other part of the calculator.
      3. I will not add to, delete or change the calculator's programming in any way.
      4. I will not play games or key "text messages" on a calculator during class time, whether it is a school calculator or my personal calculator.
      5. I will not open the back of the calculator unless asked to change batteries.
  • I understand that the teacher has the right to clear the memory in any calculator (personal or classroom) at any time.
  • I will notify the teacher when I believe my calculator needs new batteries. I will wait patiently until the teacher is able to get them for me.
  • If any damage should occur to the calculator during my class period, I will be responsible for the damage. If I see any damage or evidence of misuse of the calculator that I did not do, I must report it immediately to my teacher or be held responsible. A replacement fee will be charged for lost calculators, and a repair fee will be charged for damaged calculators that can be repaired.

If you do not agree with this contract, it will be your responsibility to provide your own graphing calculator.
