The CESA 7 Virtual Substitute Teacher Preparatory Program is a fully online program that uses the Master Teacher online platform to prepare participants to be effective substitute teachers. It offers flexible scheduling so participants can start anytime and complete coursework at their own pace.
CESA 7 also provides guidance with the Department of Public Instruction’s application process for the Substitute Teacher Permit.
Note: There are separate fees required by the Department of Public Instruction which can include the application fee (currently $125) and fingerprinting (currently $36). These are estimated costs and CESA 7 has no control over costs associated with the permit application process.
hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university as demonstrated by an official transcript. (An applicant may also request an associate degree from their four-year institution).
AND
who have successfully completed an approved substitute training program.
Is enrolled in a Wisconsin preparation program approved by the state superintendent.
Is at least 20 years of age
Has successfully completed a minimum number of credits to have achieved junior status if enrolled in an approved preparation program leading to a bachelor's degree,
AND
Has completed 15 hours of classroom observation
This is a complete virtual experience where you complete the modules at your pace when it is convenient for you. When you are done, you complete the licensing application on the DPI Educator Licensing Online website on your own. We will supply a guiding document but you create your account, attach the uploads, and file payment on your own. If applicable, you will also complete the fingerprinting process on your own.

But you will be able to sign up for a personal support session with our licensing specialist who will guide you through the DPI permit application and fingerprinting process (if necessary). Your support session can either be completed in person at the CESA 7 office or virtually.
Maximize your existing support staff by cross-certifying them as substitute teachers. CESA 7 can build a virtual, customized solution to provide the required training for qualified district staff. We will also provide complete licensing support for each individual.

Participants with an associate degree or higher who wish to complete a DPI approved substitute teacher preparatory program to qualify for a 3-Year Short Term Substitute License.
Who is this Program NOT For?
Anyone who has ever held Wisconsin educator licensing
Anyone who has completed DPI approved sub prep training after 2017
The training consist of 27 modules that take 10-15 minutes to complete.
