What is “passing off”? - Playing your music memorized (without looking at the sheet music) for one of your section leaders, a drum major, or a staff member. To officially “pass-off” a piece of music, a student must be able to play that selection by memory and earn at least an 85% performance rating by the adjudicator.

Around 2:30 each day of camp, students are dismissed to their sections for pass-off time. During this block, they are supposed to be either playing their music memorized for section leaders or working on their music in private practice time. They can also be working with staff members or other section leaders for extra help.

If you pass off on the required date, you will earn 10 points towards your varsity letter point total for the year. Passing off is the key to lettering each year and earns a student the most points towards their point goal.

If you pass off after the required date, you will earn 5 points towards your varsity letter point total. Just because you don’t memorize your music by the date given, don’t give up! Many students will still pass off their music after the required date and earn the 5 points. Those points still add up at the end of the year!
