Marisa Lopez “Two Faced Society”
6.5x6x2.9 Plaster, Acrylic Paint, Wire, 2018
I wanted to put a meaningful message behind my art work. The message is that the people in our society with different colored skin are still being discriminated against and it’s hurting them. I wanted to put the devil and angel concept to make it where the devils is hurting the angel. Racism is growing and I made this piece to represent how it hurts others. I really want the audience to notice the message of this piece and really understand what still happens in the world with different races acting on different people today. If I had to start over I would make the devil’s and angel’s side’s skin a little lighter and smooth the mask more. I would make the devil’s skin tone way lighter than it turned out to be. And fix her eyebrows. I love that I incorporated a strong message in my piece and to me I think it’s very meaningful, and the gold tears the angel cried.
Marisa Lopez “Flower Fish”
12x18,” Oil Pastel, Watercolor Paint, Hot Glue on Paper, 2018
The story of my piece is actually pretty interesting. So, one day I was watching Moana and thought about Moana’s grandmother and how she was reincarnated and came back as a stingray. I thought about what I would come back as and the first thing to come to my mind was a fish. I couldn’t draw just a plain fish so I thought of different ideas to put with the animal. I was inspired by Moana so I thought about some plants and flowers, so I drew a flower inside of the fish. I haven’t really thought about what I would like my audience to think about looking at my piece, but I want them to think of nature and living things and how beautiful the things in our world are. What would you change if you started over? If I started over I would definitely hot glue better for the inside of the fish and the eye. Though one thing I like about my piece is the blending of the colors in my flower.
Marisa Lopez “Lemon Head”
6.5X4 x0.01,” Earthenware Clay and Glass, 2018
I tried making my sides and shapes smoother for my construction method. I want my audience to know that there isn’t really a message behind this piece, I usually make more creative meaningful pieces but I did not this time. Just because it doesn’t have a meaningful and power message doesn’t mean it’s a bad piece. I think I would change the textures I used to make it look nicer. I think it kind of looks sloppy with 3 different textures in random places. Also, I think I should have tried to be neater because the colors look out of place and smeared. Though I do like how I stayed with lighter colors then added a little orange to make it brighter and pop.
Marisa Lopez “Aquaria”
12x18,” Graphite on Paper, 2018
I want my audience to think that you can still use imagination when creating a realistic perspective drawing. Like with my angler fish. I would really like to change the detailing of the sea animals if I could start over. Though I really do like the finding Beebo poster and the dolphin I drew in the right hand corner.
Marisa Lopez "Sponge"
Weaving Yarn, 2018
I chose another funny project again, this time I decided to weave SpongeBob because I truly am a 5 year old trapped in a 13 year old girls body. I made tassels for legs, but did not have time for arms. I wish I would have made arms and added buttons for the eyes. Though I do like how my weaving came out all together.
