Personal Logo

The design problem we were assigned to solve was creating a personal logo as a way to express ourselves and draw people in. I started by watching some of the example videos provided for us to get an understanding of personal logos and took some inspiration from the previous students' designs. I knew I wanted a circle logo and wanted my initials to be the main part of them. I was unsure of the coloring I wanted to use but stuck with my favourite color of green. I sketched multiple ideas and decided between many different fonts for the letters. I feel that I used contrast in the greens and whites to make the initials pop to the viewer's eye. I also chose the font I used because I wanted it to look nice but not too fancy. I’m pleased with the watercolor effect I used in the background of the photo. I feel that it added a bit of depth to the design. I think if I were to change my design I would maybe make it a bit more minimalistic. I enjoy the colors but it was difficult to match the design to items for the mock-ups and would like to see if I could make some better ones.
Our design problem we were given was to create a program for the high school commencement this spring. I first started when we looked at programs for previous years. We then sketched thumbnail ideas of what we wanted out programs to look like roughly. I then started to look for my font and clip art type of details. I think a big design element I used was contrast. The way the outline of the graduate contrasts against the year number looks pretty nice. I also used quite a bit of repetition when it comes to the fonts. I also think the opacity of the single cap and the graduate are roughly the same which pulls the front and the back of the page together nicely. Another aspect of design I used was perfecting the alignment of my text to make it as readable as possible and pull everything together. I really enjoy my use of the outline of the graduate and how I put the year number in the cap. I believe it looks pretty nice. I am also happy with the cap on the back of the page. It does a really good job filling in the white space without overcrowding the page. I think if I were to restart this design I would take more time working with a border to make it work better. I would find a way to put the border in the middle of the page as well without cutting off.
Our assignment was to create graduation programs for this spring. I created this program after the first so a lot of my brainstorming was prompted by what I wanted to do differently than the first design. I knew I wanted to change up the design quite a bit from my first. Highlighting the clipart at the bottom was one of my goals. I used major contrast with the year number and the word commencement to add a unique aspect to the design. There is also contrast because of the clipart at the bottom of the page. I used repetition with the font of the date and the whole back page to draw it together. Another thing I adjusted was making the administrator's titles bolded and their names not to highlight that difference. The spacing of the administrator's names was something I focused on, making sure the alignment worked. Overall feel extremely more pleased with this program than my initial one. I think the most pleasing aspect is the year/word commencement contrast. I think if I were to start over I would take more time focussing on fonts that work for commencement and administrators to add more repetition to the design.
This design project was free choice with multiple options. I chose the infographic prompt and decided to make an infographic of the life-cycle of a butterfly. The beginning of the brainstorming process was just choosing what project I wanted to do. Then I worked with what information I wanted to present and decided that it would be fun to make a butterfly life cycle poster meant for younger kids. I found my information on the life cycle so I could then find the appropriate pictures to go with. Finding the pictures was important because I needed them to fit the audience style I was looking to target. I sketched multiple thumbnail sketches to see how I wanted the placement of the information and pictures. Color was important on this project because I knew I wanted the poster to be geared towards a younger audience and the colors would draw them in. Along with that I had to work with the alignment and typography of the text. Finding the right font for this project was very important to catch the attention of the right audience. I feel most pleased with the coloring and the trees within this project. I feel that the colors all come together to give a very nice vibe that would go well in a youth class room. I think if I were to start over I would focus more on the text first then fit in the designs of the butterfly because it was difficult to space them all without looking cluttered.
