Elements and Principles Poster
The design problem I was faced with was making a Element or Principle poster for students ages K-12. My brainstorming process was kicked off with figuring out which element or principle I wanted to cover. After making thumbnail sketches for texture, contrast, and movement I made my decision to continue on with texture. I then made another detailed thumbnail sketch so I had a plan when I started working in photoshop. The next step was moving onto photoshop since I started with a plan it was easier to get started but I still realized there was a lot I already wanted to change from my plan. When I was choosing all the different elements in my work to get my message across my main focus was making it as appealing to the eyes as possible but also incorporating texture in the best way possible. This lead me to find a brush that made the background of my piece look textural like it does. The two pieces of artwork that I used were good examples because they had lots of texture in them and made it very clear what element I was talking about. I feel most pleased with the background of my work and the way I changed the alignment during my last revision. The alignment makes the word way easier to read and more appealing to look at. I think if I were to restart or fix something in my poster I would find a way to make the words on the page easier to see, the background of the poster causes it to be hard to see because of the color of the background.
Expressive Typography Quote
For this design project, our goal was to choose a quote that a personal meaning and use it in an expressive way. I have a strong love for music so my first thought was to use a song lyric, of course, this posed a couple of problems mostly deciding which one to use as there are many that have significant meanings to me. After searching I had found the quote “Didn’t have a dime but I always had a vision” this quote has a lot of meaning behind it for me because I do not come from the richest family but my parents do their best for me and my brother to pursue anything we set our minds on. For myself that thing I have set my mind on is band and my parents help every bit they can to allow me to have the best experience throughout my band career. The reason I picked the picture of the saxophone as the background in because in band I started off as a clarinet but always felt a pull to play saxophone and in 8th grade, I switched and now am very in love with playing the tenor saxophone. I am most pleased with the clipart I used for the background it is very aesthetically pleasing, I enjoy the colors of the music notes and how well the picture flows. If I had the chance to start over again I would find a way to change the layout of the words I am satisfied with what I have now but I feel like I could find a way to move the picture and change the layout.
Expressive Self Portrait
The objective of this design project was to use a photo of yourself an edit to make it an expressive self-portrait. This project was the hardest so far for me to plan because I really had to look into myself and make sure what I was portraying what I wanted and expressing myself. I started off with the plan sheet making multiple thumbnail sketches so I had an idea on what to start with. In the end, I did base the final sort of off the draft but not as close as I planned. So one of the points in our project was we had to edit a picture of yourself and what I did with mine was pixelated it to add some noise or movement almost. This change was to express my personal battle with anxiety. I am a very anxious and worry-wort type of person and I think that filter gives off the perfect feeling that represents how my anxiety affects me. In the background, you can see random music notes around and the quote “Music is always a healer” because one thing that has helped me deal with my anxiety is music its a huge help and can always calm me down. The font I believed to fit well with the swirly font of the music notes in that background. I am very pleased with the editing I made on the picture of myself and how well the entire thing fits together. If I was to restart this project I would most likely edit my shirt in the picture to get rid of the text that's on it. On the other hand, the text is connected to a band I am a fan of so that goes well with what I am trying to express with this portrait.
Film Festival Poster
The objective of this project was to make an original and interesting flyer for the upcoming film festival. During the brainstorm I was stuck on the idea of using a marquee, the idea of the typewriter font and lights around the information seemed like it would do well-getting peoples attention. I worked with the idea of a marquee for a long time until I realized that to get my point across and the poster not feel messy I would need to come up with something more simple. I chose the theater curtain to be the background because it fits in the film idea. The reason I chose that font for the top part of the text was that I wanted something bold that would get peoples attention. The moving down to the bottom set of text the font is not as bold but still interesting do help keep peoples attention. The ticket in the middle is a small detail that adds something interesting to the page but still fits in with the objective. I am most pleased with the fonts and the background, I enjoy the curtain in the background because I feel like the color is bold and will grab peoples attention. I like the text because I think choosing two different ones was a good idea to keep the flyer from being boring. If I had to change one thing it would be the color of the tickets in the middle of the page, I am not super fond of them because I feel like they look a bit off with the rest of the poster.
Propaganda Poster
The objective of this project was to make a propaganda poster about a topic you are passionate about. The research step was vital in this project because I had to make sure I knew what I was talking about and had correct facts. After the research, I looked towards the clipart I wanted to uses and the main parts of the poster like the background. I wanted to use lots of contrast and emphasis because I feel like it fit with what I was trying to accomplish. My goal was to get peoples attention with a sobering fact about smoking so the bold text and contrast was necessary. I am most pleased with how well the smoke in the background and the clipart look together. If I were to change one thing I would most likely look for a different font but one that is just as bold. I had difficulty fitting this font into the box.
