Hannah Brodgen “Bird Bowl”
41/2 X 3 X 3, Earthenware Clay & Glass 2017
The style of my projects is realism and abstract because the sculpture is a Bird but I glazed it in a glaze with colorful crystals in it so when it was in the kilim it melting down making it look like water colors mixed together. I started this sculpture with a mold of a bird it has a area on the back where you could put a candle or little items in. When it was being cooked the head fell off so I sculpted that part myself and attached it to the body, then I smoothed some areas, last, I painted it with glaze. If I started over Id make it with no spot to put things in and I’d make the whole thing realistic by painting it like a real bird. I like how I made it because it looks more unique being colorful then it would real, I like when something is different from others.
Hannah Brogden “Rose”
10 Inches, Clay & Glass, 2017
The style of my sculpture is realism it is a red rose and steam I added thorns to show the more realistic details. I started the rose in a ball and cut deep slits down the middle in a circle forming pedals and made some flare out like a real rose. In the painting process, I had to do at least 3 coats of paint because it looked thinner is some spots. If I started over id paint it really even in the same direction so it looks smoother but I love how realistic it looks.
Hannah Brogden “Flower bowl”
4 inches, Clay & Glass, 2017
The style of my bowl is abstract it’s a white bowl with a colorful glaze on the flower I chose the glaze I used because it had crystals and melted down to look abstract and different. From the beginning, I didn’t know what I was making I started with a bowl then I wanted to add some pop and I thought a flower in the whole bottom would be cute so I started making the pedals then when I was finish I picked out some colors to see what would happen and I ended up liking what I made. If I started over id make the pedals more neat but I love the colors I painted it with.
Hannah Brogden “Snail”
41/2 X 31/2, Clay & Glaze, 2017
The style of this sculpture is abstract because of the crystal color but also realism because it is a snail. I started out wedging the clay then making it into a long thin enough line so it wouldn’t blow up when in the kilim, then I rolled it into the shape of the snails’ shell, next I made the intenas for eyes. After drying I did a few layers of paint before it was fried. If I started over a would make the base flatter and heavier so it could stand on its own but I love the color and crystals in the paint.
Hannah Brogden “Twist”
41/2 X 71/2, Wood, Wire, Bouncy Balls, 2017
This sculpture is very abstract it isn’t something in particular it’s like one of those random sculptures that people look at and are like “what’s the supposed to be or why’d they do that?” I started out thinking I was going to make a big bouncy ball out of small bouncy balls connecting with wire but the wire was really hard to stick through so I only did about 8 in a line on wire, then I shaped it into a twist that’s how it got its name then I found a base with a wooden poll in the center so I painted it blue and twisted the “twist” around it. If I started over maybe I would have thought of something better to combined with bouncy balls but that’s what I wanted to use.
