Cassidy Smith “Abuse"
18',24' in, Acrylic on Canvas, 2018
This painting holds the theme of abuse, which in my eyes is seen as a social issue. It is a painting of a girl with a tear running down her face and a bruise under her eye as her eye reflects an image of someone getting abused. It symbolizes all kinds of abuse whether it is visually watching someone get abused, or getting abused yourself. It happens everyday, and it shouldn't. This painting is suppose to hold a lot of emotion for that reason. If i started over I think I would change the reflection in the eye to look a little more realistic because I think I could have definitely done it better. What I love about it is the theme of it overall and the shades of color into it for the hair and the skin tone. I also really love the tear drop, which Mrs. Dunlavey helped me with!
Cassidy Smith “Halsey”
18','24 in, Acrylic on Canvas, 2018
This painting fits in with a Narrative theme because Halsey is one of my biggest role models. I look up to her as the person she is and the life she lives. She is a famous singer who I have listened too for years and all of her music holds a lot of meaning, expressing strength and hard times. She lives with a bipolar disorder and has experienced assault and abuse through her life, but you still see her standing tall and strong being an icon for kids and teenagers all over, especially me. She expresses herself boldly and is such a pure human being, which is all the more reason of why I love her and her music so much. I am very proud to paint her. She is a music icon and this painting symbolizes my love for her as a person, and the music she writes. If i started over I wouldn't change a thing. I really like the work I did and I'm proud of what it turned out to be. What I love about my painting so much is the style I made it. I like the way her face turned out and how real it looks. You can definitely tell it's a painting of Halsey!
