Cassidy Smith "Midnight Moon"
18x24 Acrylic on paper, 2017
The style of this painting looks like it could be realism but it is actually made to be surrealism. The moon I made more of a base figure in the painting and it is a lot bigger than it would be in real life. It takes up most of the sky overpowering the land of mountains. As you can see I also made the starts bigger in the sky to make it look more as if the sky is zoomed in over everything. When I was in progress of making this painting I did not have an exact plan of how this would turn out and I just followed my mind having more of a visual in my head. I painted this because I wanted to paint some sort of landscape idea. If I could change something about this painting it would probably be the flower patches. I feel like I should have made them in bigger bunches to pop out more and if I could I would go back and paint the background of everything first. I made it kind of hard on myself because I decided to paint everything at once, making more of an obstacle for me with the paintbrush. One thing I love about this painting though is the moon and the water flowing towards it because I think it is a good piece in which I added into this painting.
Cassidy Smith "Horizon Elephants"
12x18 Acrylic on paper, 2017
The style of this painting is abstract. I made it by blending a lot of color to make the sky scream out more in the painting itself. I painted everything else black as if it was a frame placed in front of the moving horizon to make it abstract in a sort of way. If I could change something about this painting it would probably be to maybe have added some other object in the photo besides the elephants, trees, and birds. I am not quite sure what I would want it to be but I think it would have added something more to fill up some of the open space. What I love about this is the way I painted the sky and how it shifts colors. I also love how everything I put in front of the sky is black, as if they were just shadows.
Cassidy Smith "Beyonce" In Progress
12x18 Acrylic on paper, 2017
The style of this painting is realism. It is still in progress but I am painting it with black and white to make different shades of grey. I think the shades bring it to be more of a realistic figure in the face and body also giving her different tones. It has taken a lot of time and I am proud of the progress. I think I am doing a good job and I hope that once it is done it will look more realistic. I decided to paint Beyonce because she is one of my favorite singers and she sticks out a lot to me over everyone else. I love her both as a performer and as a person so I thought she would be a good idea for a painting. If I could change one thing about this painting it would probably be nothing because so far I have not been disappointed with anything I have put on it or done to it. What I love about it is the way different shades are put into her face to sculpt it and make it look more unique as a painting of herself.
