Cassidy Smith “Love is Love”

I wanted to create a picture of something that expressed love, and so I thought it would be a great idea to draw a picture of two girls kissing because it does not only express love, but it expresses love towards everyone, no matter who it is. I wanted to really exemplify the LGBT community and show that everyone can love whoever they want, whether it is the same gender or opposite. My idea was exactly what my final work came out as and I was very happy with it, especially with the gay flag in the background. This drawing symbolizes love and that you are free to love whoever your heart admires. If I started over, I would probably change the waves of the flag. I think I could have made it look more even and realistic but I kind of went a little fast on it. Other than that, I loved everything else and was satisfied with it all. I love how I drew the two girls and how there is a black opening in the middle where the girls are standing bringing the viewers eyes to focus on the main point of the picture.

Cassidy Smith “Forest”

Starting my drawing, I had the idea to make a beautiful forest using pastels. I wasn’t expecting it to be perfect, I actually wanted it to have that chalky non focused look and I watched a tutorial to help me out. As I worked on it I came to realize that it wasn’t as challenging as I thought but it was very satisfying to create, watching the pastels clash into one another. When I was finished with my work I was very happy with its outcome. My drawing symbolized the beauty of nature and all it has to hold. It even shows the beauty in the little things such as the sun shining through the trees, beaming light on the green grassy floor of the forest. If I started over and I could change something about my drawing it would be the foggy overlook. For some reason there is like a powdery look over the top of my drawing and it was not there before. I did not apply it so I don’t know if it was from someone else’s art being pressed against mine or what but I would definitely make sure that didn’t happen if I restarted. I am still proud of my work though. What I love about my drawing is the trees and how they are all abstract in the background. It really is what makes the piece what it is and its very beautiful to look at.

Cassidy Smith “The Mystery Machine”

When I started off making this art piece, I wanted it to be a little dreamy, so I decided to do Scooby and Shaggy sitting on top of the Mystery Machine looking at the sky in which I collaged with purple and blue colors. It turned out exactly how I imagined it, just not as perfect as I was wanting it to look. This drawing symbolizes me looking back on my childhood and my favorite cartoon as a kid. If I started over, I would change the size of Scooby and Shaggy because I made them a little bigger than I wanted and I would also take more time in creating the structure of the car. What I love about this drawing is the fact it has Scooby and Shaggy in it, who are two of my favorite cartoon characters from being a child.

Cassidy Smith “Look at the Stars”

12’,18’, Pastel, 2019

I was wanting to create a beautiful night sky with many colors and stars. I first originally planned to just do the night sky, but then as I was going along, I decided to add trees and birds, but I kept everything besides the sky black. When I finished it I was very satisfied and it was one step up from what I originally was expecting it to look like. This drawing symbolizes the endless beauty our world holds, and the wonders of the many stars that are in our galaxy. If I started over I couldn’t say I would really change anything. I love it all and I’m more than happy with the outcome. What I absolutely love about this drawing is the sky and all of the colors and specks of stars I put into it.
