The objective of this project was to create something unexpected by blending images together using layer masks. Looking at the example provided on Canvas gave me ideas for my project. I saw that a lot of them combined images that involved water so I decided I wanted to do something similar. I began thinking of things that wouldn’t normally go together and came up with several ideas. I also looked up some more examples online. Then I began sketching some ideas. I used the design element of contrast in my project by making the rubber duck bright and using a darker background. This fits with the design goal because you wouldn’t expect to see a bright rubber duck in a rain puddle in a dark cloudy city. I am most pleased with how the reflection of the rubber duck turned out. If I started over, I might put the rubber duck more in the center since it’s pretty far off to the side.

The objective of this assignment was to represent ourselves in an expressive way. I started out by thinking of things that could represent me. I created a list of different things or activities that I like and selected a few ideas from that list. I decided to use a watercolor palette and paintbrush to represent that I like painting and other art-related things. I also changed the opacity and blend mode of my photo to make to look more like a painting on the paper. I like how the watercolor effect turned out on my picture. If I started over, I would probably make my photo bigger on the paper so more attention is drawn to it.
Expressive Typography Quote
10x8, Photoshop, 2020
The objective of this project was to use typography, images, and color to create a mood/feeling to match a selected quote. I started by searching websites with quotes to find some that I liked. After I selected a few, I started brainstorming images and effects to go along with the quote. Then I started looking for fonts as well. I chose a picture of a person holding string lights because I wanted to find something with light in it to match the quote. I used the blur tool to blur the rest of the person’s body to make the hands be the main focal point and match the words in the quote. I wanted to use typography that was easy to read but also unique, and I liked the handwritten feel of this font. I am most pleased with how the blur turned out on the image. If I started over, I would maybe try using an image of a candle or a sunset because those were some of my other ideas.
