Scholarships are financial awards for students to apply towards furthering their education. These can be awarded based on merit, need, programs, gender, ethnicity, or various other criteria. Scholarships are not loans, they are gifts.
Below are some scholarship sites. These are some of the best sites available, and offer loads of resources for both students and parents. Your CHS AVID student will already have an account set up with these sites.

Collegegreenlight.com is specifically designed to assist first-generation and underrepresented students connect to colleges and scholarships. Offers college matches, managing applications, and more.
In addition to scholarship searches, College Week Live allows students and parents to also search colleges and universities, watch live presentations from educations specialists, and chat with admissions representatives. They also hold an online college fair specifically for AVID students!
Unigo.com offers the ability to search colleges, search for scholarships, articles on how to pay for college, jobs and internships on campuses, and more.
Fastweb.com offers scholarship searches, college searches, test prep, financial aide advice, information on student loans, and career planning.
Through a new program called Raise.me, students can earn guaranteed scholarships from 200+ colleges as early as 9th grade, making it easier to plan financially for school. Raise.me has proven to be a great tool to motivate students, as the site immediately rewards students with scholarships for their hard work in and outside of high school.

● Get an A in a course ($100 - $1,000)
● Get a B in a course ($50 - $600)
● Participate in a school club or sport ($25 - $250)
The Gates Scholarship is a highly selective, full scholarship for Pell-eligible, high school seniors. Eligible students must be members of at least one of the following ethnicities: African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian and Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic American. Scholars will receive funding for the full cost of attendance that is not already covered by other financial aid and the expected family contribution, as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The Dell Scholars Program is available to students participating in approved college readiness programs. AVID is the only program offered at Center High School on the approved program list at this time.
