Little Dragons
FAQs
The Little Dragons uniform is their Little Dragons T-shirt and their Rank Bracelet, worn on their left arm (or ankle, if their wrist is too small!).
We also recommend Little Dragons bring a water bottle with them to class, but no glass bottles please!
Students will receive a white rank bracelet upon signup.
As they go through the curriculum, they will earn Warrior & Scholar stripes. A certain number of stripes on their bracelet will earn them the next level!
Check out this video for more information: Little Dragons Stripe System
If a student comes to class regularly and shows consistent effort, it should take them about 18 months to earn their Black Bracelet.
Once a student has completed the whole Little Dragons rank progression and earned their black bracelet, they may graduate to our Kids Kung Fu program.
Centerline Kids Kung Fu is for ages 7 - 14. Feel free to check out the Foundations tab on this site for a preview of Kids Kung Fu material!
Warrior stripes are earned every two weeks. Warrior stripe curriculum is covered consistently in classes over the course of two weeks, first during a LEARN week, and then during an EARN week. During EARN weeks, students will earn the "warrior" stripe corresponding with the curriculum focus. As long as a student shows up for class and is able to demonstrate that they learned something about the warrior focus, they will earn that stripe.
Scholar stripes are less structured, and are up to instructor discretion to distribute. Scholar stripes are given out for exceptional focus, respectful behavior, demonstrations of courage or patience, and clear proof of at-home practice. Scholar stripes are not a given during any particular class. On average, about 1 - 2 students can expect to earn a scholar stripe during a class.
Patience: Students learn patience when they are eager to earn stripes. A student may want to earn a stripe every class, but they will not earn one every class. An important part of the process is each student earning that progress takes time and is not always rewarded with a stripe every single class. These are all difficult, yet important lessons that it is never too early to start learning.
Practice: Over time, students learn the benefits of practicing at home. They will start to notice improvements in their techniques and in the feedback they get from instructors during class.
Courage: Students are encouraged to demonstrate techniques or lead certain exercises at the front of the class. It is scary at first, but students gain courage the more they get comfortable with speaking out and leading a group a little bit at a time.
Focus: In order to learn new techniques, learn the rules of in-class games, and make a fun & safe learning environment, focus is key. Over time, students get better and better at focusing, both during Kung Fu class and during their day-to-day life!
Respect: This a lesson interwoven in everything we do in Kung Fu. Students learn to bow as soon as they enter the training space; this symbolizes respect for the room, their fellow students, the instructor, and the material they will be learning. Like all the other themes inherent in Little Dragons, respect is valuable in all other aspects of life.
These themes are reflected in our Scholar stripes, which are earned infrequently and recognize students who are developing their Kung Fu character!
