EURs will be processed daily from July 9-15 and then weekly thereafter
I want my exams re-marked, how do I do that?
Students who have not achieved the Diploma or their expected results can ask for all of their externally assessed components in a subject area to be reassessed (world exam papers and external assessments); individual re-assessment of internal assessments or a specific Paper are not options the IB provides. When a re-mark is requested all externally assessed components for that subject will be re-assessed.
Because grades can go up, be reduced or stay the same, the IB requires that students or parents specifically indicate that they understand that should the grade change the IB does not take the higher of the two, they take the newly assessed score. If you would like to initiate an EUR, you will need to complete this form.
If you do wish to request an EUR, you will need to make a bank transfer of HKD1050 to the accounts department per EUR (in other words, if you need EURs in more than one subject area, you will need to make a payment of HKD1050 for each course you are requesting an EUR.)
You cannot complete the Google Form prior to making the payment as the form requests proof of payment.
Once you have made the transfer you can then complete the EUR request, not before, using this Google Form. You must upload the payment slip as part of completing the form. Only when the bank transfer has been made and the Google Form completed will we begin the process of requesting an EUR.
Should your EUR result in a change of grade (either up or down), the $1050 fee will be refunded to you during the third week of September. In order to facilitate the refund we will request your banking details as part of submitting the EUR Google Form.
What were my marks on my individual exam papers?
We don't get this information on the 6th of July (usually the 9th of July), the IB assistant will add the component scores to each student's results folder as well as the grade boundaries, if available. We do not release moderated results for IAs.
How long do EURs take?
The enquiry upon results process takes 18 days (usually less). The IB assistant or DP Coordinator will communicate the results of the EUR to students via CDNIS email as soon as they are received from the IB. Students will have access to their CDNIS email until Oct. 15.
When is the deadline to initiate an EUR?
Students have until September 14th to make the request.
What's the success rate of EURs?
Typically, worldwide, student marks per subject (that is, their score out of 100, this is an important note) see the following approximate changes:
No change: 35%
One mark increase: 15%
One mark decrease: 12%
Two mark increase: 10%
Two mark decrease: 6%
Three mark increase: 5%
Three mark decrease: 2%
Four mark increase: 3%
Four mark decrease: >1%
Five mark increase: >1%
Please note that these changes are scaled and not specific to any assessment. However, this is the information, along with the "detailed results" information on candidates.ibo.org, is all that you need (have available) to determine the likelihood of a change in grade from an EUR. There is little else the Coordinator can provide in terms of information.
What happens when if my grade changes?
Within 24 hours there will be a change to your score on candidates.ibo.org. For students who have submitted a request for their results to be sent to universities or colleges, the university will be informed of any grade change as a result of an EUR. For institutes that receive IB results in ‘Electronic’ format, the institute will receive an automated email. For institutes that receive IB results in paper format (a transcript), a new paper transcript will be printed and sent out. That said, it can't hurt to let the university know that a change has occurred and tell them to keep an eye out for the update from the IB.
If you receive a grade change in late August or September, the IB will send an updated version of your results. We will mail out your official results only when we receive the updated results document.
OSSD percentage grades will be updated according to the new Paper 1 and 2 marks (and relevant Arts assessments), The grade will be updated in the OSSD system, and transcripts will be sent to universities and students' residences upon request.
How do I know how close I am to the next grade boundary?
While on the "home" tab, scroll down to "results" and click "view results".
Next, scroll to the relevant course and click "reveal" to see your 1-7 grade. You will see a "view details" option only after you click "reveal." There you will see your grade, total mark for the course out of 100, the lower and upper grade boundaries for that grade and the marks required to see an increase to that grade. See the screenshots below.
Should I request an EUR?
Ultimately, that is up to each individual and their circumstances. However, the likelihood of an increase is pretty low if a student is off from the next grade boundary by much more than one mark.
There is a lot of very useful information on candidates.ibo.org as well as in the statistics provided above. In addition, consulting the component scores in your Google Results Folder after July 9 is helpful. Remember, the "total scaled moderated mark" is your score in the subject out of 100 and your IAs are not re-marked, so, typically, at least 20-25 percent of your mark (in most courses) won't change as part of an EUR.
Also remember, that if you were hoping for your mark on a Paper 1, for example, to go up, consider how many marks the total score of your Paper would need to improve to move your overall grade. You also need to consider that a mark could go down as part of your Paper 2 re-mark (because remember all externally assessment work gets re-marked.)
I (Mr. Hull) have done many EURs as a senior examiner and we are specifically told to only make changes if there is good reason to do so. Typically, I make changes on about 10 percent which is similar to what we see across the programme in most years. Do the examiners of my EUR see the original results? Yes, they see the original scores for each criteria.
Finally, consider the subject area. Is the score on your Paper 2 in Physics or Math really going to go up enough to move your scaled mark out of 100? They aren't the most subjective of courses. However, in a subject like English or History there might be more movement on a re-mark.
In some cases, when results are very disappointing and a university entrance is at risk, it may simply be worth the money (the risk is pretty low when you are quite close to the next grade boundary). However, in order to keep expectations realistic, it is worth it to take the time to consider the likelihood of a grade change and hopefully this information will help you do just that.
Beyond this explanation, there is little else I can tell you that is likely to help in making your decision. That said, if need be, I'm always happy to jump on a Zoom call to talk you through the process.
