Artist Statement:
Jeremiah Shadle "Heart Magnet"
4in by 5in by 1in (about), Air dry clay, 2026
(IDEA) The idea was just to make a simple heart, quick and easy. I just had the idea pop into my head, and the project was very late, so I did the first thing that popped into my mind, which was a simple heart. :)
(PROCESS) My process was, getting the clay, slowly shaping it into the heart, then wait for dry into painting. I used my hands to sculpt the clay, then used a brush and some paint to color it.
(SYMBOLISM & ICONOGRAPHY) I honestly do not have any hiddin imagery in the art, just wanted to make something decent looking and quick.
(ARTISTIC GROWTH) definitely getting the clay into shape, my big hands didn't really like working with the kinda small piece of clay. I worked through it by going pretty slowly and making sure i smoothed the edges.
(VISUAL VOICE) It doesn't really have an art style, it's clay 🗿. I'd say the kinda scuffed colors fit how i do paintings, and the roughness is cool.
Artist Statement:
Jeremiah Shadle "Slump bowls"
bowl 1: 5in x 5in x 2in (approx), bowl 2 8in by 8in by 3in (approx), Stoneware and glaze, 2026
(IDEA) The bowls were the first project of the class, and they were a project that had to be done.
(PROCESS) the process started with getting 2 slabs of clay, getting the air out with a rolling pin, then used a mold to mold the clay into a bowl. then waited for fire and then glazed. used some extra tools and such to make the clay more soft edges.
(SYMBOLISM & ICONOGRAPHY) mr no hidden symbolism vs symbolism part of artist statement. The bowls are cool looking i think, simple but pretty good colors.
(ARTISTIC GROWTH) first actual clay project, so it was kinda difficult to work the clay into what i wanted it to look like, (see second bowl being kinda scuffed) but i fixed that but getting used to how clay moves and how to shape it.
(VISUAL VOICE) I think the small amount of scuffed-ness is somethign that I somehow always get whenever i do a proect on art related things, so I would say these have some of those qualities.
birds nest of doom and dispair (a friend said this when i shared pictures)
Artist Statement:
Jeremiah Shadle "Pitcher"
5in by 2in by 12in (approx), Stoneware and glaze, 2026
(IDEA) The idea of the pitcher was just that it is a simple pitcher that we made for a project. I didn't have really any inspirations from other things, there is some extra decorations on the side though
(PROCESS) So what i did was get two blocks of clay, work them out, press them together, bend the clay, then made a bottom to the clay, then fixed the seam a bit, then added some ornamentation. after it was fired, i glazed it, and made the glaze fluctuate two different colors on the sides.
(SYMBOLISM & ICONOGRAPHY) I don't really put symbolism in any of my art or work. So think on how cool this pitcher is 😎.
(ARTISTIC GROWTH) Getting the shape of the pitcher correct, and also adding design to it, as my hands sanded down the original design on the base clay, but the added things fixed that.
(VISUAL VOICE) I do not know what the hell to talk about with the style of it yeah, I love it being just bg enough to fit in one of my hands when fully clasped. :p
Artist Statement:
Jeremiah Shadle "Press bowl"
3in by 3in by 7in, stoneware and glaze, 2026
(IDEA) The idea was to press clay into a bowl and add some extra things on it after you got the bowl molded. I didn't really have any inspirations, just added stuff i though of in the moment.
(PROCESS) so i got bowl mold, and added clay, after it was sturdy enough to remove i trimmed and added the ornamentation, then after it got fired i glazed it and tried to do a copper and oxidized copper look for a reason.
(SYMBOLISM & ICONOGRAPHY) there is a smiley face in their if that counts as symbolic imagery :)
(ARTISTIC GROWTH) probably the long process of pressing the clay in small pieces, it was just kinda boring and felt way longer then it was. I watched youtube to get past that though. :D
(VISUAL VOICE) The little extra things being faces fits with what i usually do on sketchbooks and paper, of added a lot of faces.
Artist Statement:
Jeremiah Shadle "Wheel bowl and small cup thing"
bowl 7in x 7in x 3in (aprx), the cup thing is 3 in by 3in by 4in (aprx) Stoneware & Glaze, 2026
(IDEA) I got the idea's from working on the wheel and just winging what i was doing during the wheel process. They are really simple, but it was my first time working on a wheel so.
(PROCESS) so I got on the wheel, wetted it down, then put a ball of clay on there, then did the process of opening, the first one is the cup thing, as i didn't know how to widen with the wheel that well at that point. The bowl actually looks pretty good and i like it.
(SYMBOLISM & ICONOGRAPHY) think about a time when you didn't know how to do something, and now think of a watermelon. There you go.
(ARTISTIC GROWTH) Learning how the wheel works and how to make the clay i want to work with it. I got it down relatively quick after a few minutes of trial and error
(VISUAL VOICE) These things can be used as household items to hold things. I like the lines that are on and in them because of the wheel.
