Just my baseline, no deeper meaning
Jayden Anderson “Boogie”
15 ¾ x 19 ¾ , Pastel Paints, 2022
The idea behind it is a character I made named boogie. I listened to the song boogie woogie wu by insane clown posse. Takes inspiration from fears of dark and spiders, being a hexapedal organism (6 limbs). I started with light and dark purples and combined them in a gradient. then added an ultramarine and P blue layer starting about ⅔ the way down. Then a brown layer ¾ the way down. Followed by making cracks from black paint, then made boogie from a combination of Balk, orage, and light gray colors. I tried aiming for the aspect of the fact that something can be scary, but ultimately harmless. It's a large black figure peering over a fence on a 30 ft drop. I've always struggled with human forms, I've always made serpentine and abstract figures. I also usually avoid shading as well because I am horrendous at it. It is a surreal image of a character I made in the span of 5 minutes a couple months ago.
Jayden Anderson "Leviathan Sunrise"
15 ¾ x 19 ¾, paint, 2022
It started out as an idea for a spooky type painting. I got it to the point I had water and the sky. I felt there was something missing from the painting so I added a serpentine being in the center.
I used a variety of brushes and paint. I started out just making a background I liked then branched out from there. I also didn’t use a reference because I can't ever make something from a baseplate and remake it, I can barely ever do it.
I think of it as an otherworldly depiction of thalassophobia, or the fear of the oceans/deep water. It's a large unidentified bursting out of the water with masses of bioluminescent algae coming off its black and white scales.
Blending, i'm used to doing planer and less detailed without gradients. It was a good bit of a struggle trying to blend the colors together. It turned out okay, but i'm glad i did try it and i think it made it look good
With the Visual detail and its inspirations it leans a bit more to the surreal art styles, as many of the things i do have done. It is my favorite design. Being serpentine I can add details to the head, scattered details in the torso and it can take as many curves and curls as I want.
Rune
in all honestly, it was on a whim. the runes are a last minute addition. its meant to be sharp glowing cracks on a jet black stone. its uses runes that i had came up with myself, on the spot.
