Jayden Anderson | 2025 | Clay
This piece was originally based off of the common mimic enemy in many games. this idea was drawn from my love of video games and fighting such enemies. I started by making a large pot, i coiled clay that was pressed into long tybes to make the pot. Then i cut out the mouth and added the teeth. My goal was to hit that uncanny familiarity that mimics hit. just enough to be overlooked if your not looking close enough. i did have small issues with the design, it was difficult to find an amout to take out for the mouth without jepordizing the structual integrity. it is an abstract artwork, not having eyes or any details becides the large mouth on the front.

This piece is based on Japanese oni, and normal Christian descriptions of demonic beings. It started by just applying clay to a mannequin head, adding the lager details such as the horns and eye holes. after it was done and fireable, i add it to the kiln. once fired i glaze it. the piece in a whole represents a metaphorical mask. One of anger or hate that is normally seen as something evil or otherworldly. This was an interesting piece thanks to the nature of a mask. its fit to a head and adding horns to something so fine. my favotite bit that ive improved in this is the color combinations and the just irregular enough surface to look somewhat organic.
