Jayden Anderson "Badger"
illustrator, 2025
This originally started as a image of a black footed albatross. but due to a combination of smaller details that were extremely difficult to capture. and the pen tool not working well with the shape. i pivoted to making an American badger. after i pivoted, everything came together quickly.
I started by getting an image of a badger. after adding it to my art board as a template, i outlined the badger. starting from the full shape, then working inwards along the patterns.
While not much is symbolic in this. i did choose to do a badger since it is one of may favorite animals. its also widly misunderstood. both in being seen as widely aggressive and mistaking their attitude for their European cousins.
the most difficult part for me was getting the pen tool to work correctly. i was fighting with it to property make zones to paint.
I'm not 100% sure on a genre, however the subject is just your run in the mill American badger. it was chose for the fun of making my favorite animal.
