8x8, Acrylic on Canvas, 2025
The idea of this piece was to recreate a past piece I did representing Alaska but make it seem as though time has gone by. I did this by not including the sunset but still including the reds, pinks, blues and purples of a sunset but in a darker light. I started by taking a scrap piece and repurposing it by painting over it. I then used various blues and purples to cover the previous lighter colors and then faded them into warmer colors. As I moved down and got to the middle I stopped to create a separation between the sky and the darker water. Next I outlined mountains in the background and highlighted them with white to show snow. Lastly adding a yellow hue to show the reflection of the sunset and the black silhouette of the man fishing alone in the bay. Something I found difficult was to include the yellow hue at the end and not have it look like a mist instead of reflection. But the more I believe the viewer could look at it. It begins to look like the wind swirling at the top of the mountain which I believe is just as good as any reflection. If I could change just one thing it would be to use lighter colors for the water so the man fishing alone doesn't almost disappear in the dark blues. This surreal art style makes it unique because it highlights how ideas are not stuck in a certain time.
6x4, Acrylic on Canvas, 2025
This is an acrylic depiction of Iceland and places like it and how intense snow storms can be in the middle of the night. I did this by directing the paint across the canvas using my brush to show the various directions of the wind. I first started by using blues and purples to show the snow and northern lights. I then mixed them and directed them in different directions. Finally I outlined a single home on top of a hill in black to show although the sky might be colorful and nice the reality down below is not so nice. If I could change anything I would change the way I did the home and include some lights inside and make it more detailed in general.
