Drawing I

Ian Maxwell "Distant Road"

12x10, Graphite on Paper,  2023

This is a grid drawing of the main road in Welton Iowa. The picture I used is a picture I took when a storm was coming in. I thought the dark clouds and the lighting was really cool so I took the picture. I used the picture for my grid drawing because I thought lamp post and the road in the distance would turn out really good when drawn. I started off by sending the original road picture from my phone to my computer. Where I then added a black grid using Canva. After adding the grid I printed it out and began sketching the squares bigger by about half an inch on some nicer paper. Once the squares were done I began drawing a bit of an outline to my paper. I want the art to be dark in the background and there to be the street light lighting everything up. Since its really just a rough outline right now I don't really have anything I would wanna change.  I have found one thing difficult and that is to not draw too hard and to draw lighter. But I think since I am very accurate with what I am drawing it'll be alright in the end. I would say my artwork is realistic being that its a real picture I took. I think the thing that makes it unique is the fact that it's a picture I took,  then turned it into a drawing. I also like how everything sort of disappears into the distance.

Ian Maxwell "Porsche Ink"

7x5, Ink on Paper, 2023

The first drawing is a sketch I did because I was bored one day in class. I decided to sketch this certain car because it is a dream car of mine. I decided to use the sketch for this project because I thought the lines would turn out pretty well and look good on red paper with the black ink. Out of all three different ink stamps I believe this one turned out the best. The only thing I don't like is when I traced the sketch onto the foam the lines weren't very smooth. I started off by taking a picture on my phone then sending it to my computer to print it off.  After I printed the copy off I started using a pen to indent the lines onto a piece of foam. After I did that I rolled ink onto the foam then stamped it onto a piece of red paper.

Ian Maxwell "Sunset"

12x9, Chalk/Graphite on Paper, 2023

This artwork is my depiction of somewhere in Alaska. I had originally drawn something similar but without the sunset and man fishing for my Biology project. I thought it was such a good idea I revised on it and added color, the man fishing and a sunset. I decided to add a sunset and man fishing because I thought that the reflections and ripples would look really good using chalk and when I blended it in.
