Ian Maxwell "Classic Pitcher"

12x6, Ceramic/Glass, 2023

This is a pitcher I made to be able to use at some point for water. I really wanted to have the handle flow down look a part of it and not just added on and I feel like I accomplished that. Originally I started out with a block of clay that I rolled out on the slab roller.  I then used a stencil of a leaf to give it some contrast, cut a shape out flat then brought it upright and folded it together to form a pitcher. After having a rough shape I molded the edges smooth and formed a spout. My final touch was the handle in which I needed to make sure I smoothed it out. Also making sure I had enough support for it to actually be held. When I created the pitcher I wanted people to think of an old pitcher from ancient times. I found the absolute most difficult thing for me was making the handle. Making sure it looked good visually and making sure it had enough support. I feel like this pitcher is very realistic because it could actually be used as a real pitcher.

Ian Maxwell "Dice Box"

4x5, Ceramic/Glass, 2023

This is a dice shaped box that has a removable lid to store small items inside. I wanted to make something that looks cool yet has a function. Originally I started with a block of clay I rolled out and cut a square to be my bottom. Once done I rolled out more squares using leftover clay and getting more as I went. After getting identical squares I then cut them to fit into each other then cut or molded the corners.  When I created the box I wanted people to see it as a dice but then realize it opens to store small things. I found the most difficult thing about this to be making each square identical and even just making sure  they fit together well.

Ian Maxwell "The First"

4x5, Ceramic/Glass, 2023

This is my first wheel piece I don't know exactly what the purpose is but it could be a cup  or a small bowl. This piece was supposed to be something different but the cup part was cut off while spinning on the wheel due to it being too thin. I decided to mold the bottom half to the cup last minute rather than throwing it away. I was originally going for a medieval cup but the middle
