"Fairy-lit Forest"
Watercolor
2026
I had my reference picture saved in my Pinterest folder along with a lot of other nature-like scenery, this one just stuck out to me the most with how the fairy lights dangle beautifully from a willow tree. I treid my best to capture said beauty, though it was particularly difficult to get them to appear the way I wanted. I do enjoy how the lighting gradually fades out, it was my main focus point when creating this piece.

This was my number one focus for Advanced Studio 2, I had this planned out from the beginning of the semester with high hopes it would turn out well. Though, when I started...that all went out the window. The background is a regular canvas with a stereotypical background of New York City, particularly Times Square. I wanted to make it really abstract to capture the ruggedness, unpredictablility, and just pure randomness of the city. There's so many colors, so much to see, and so much going on all at once. I wish I had added a bit more if I'm being honest, but I still think it's okay. Now for the second painting, the watercolor portion of a beautiful farmland. For this, I wanted to capture the essence of Iowa with the green grass, tall trees, light blue sky, and a small little coop-like area with sunflowers, a gate, chickens, a silo, and even a tractor in the background. The whole point of this piece was to show the sheer contrast between a big city and a small town, where I came from V.S where I am now.
