Artist Name "Blue starfish pot"
Clay Blue glaze, Purple glaze, 2021
3X4
My idea for this artwork was to make a very unique small pot that can hold stuff. I wanted to make it not perfectly round, and so I made this, the bottom is round and the top looks like a star. My process in making this was to first make a perfectly round pot out of clay, and then I widened it out, and bent the top into the shape I wanted. After that, I fired it, and then I thought because it looked like a starfish, I would put a blue glaze on it for the ocean color. Then I fired it again and it was done! The artwork portrays a starfish, sitting at the bottom of the ocean at night, because the blue is darker and it would be harder to see. The most difficult thing I had to go through, was making the top more equal, it felt like one side was always too long but I finally fixed it. The only thing I would change was to glaze it one more time, because you can see at the top, it's not fully glazed. This is abstract because I took some qualities from the ocean, and some qualities from a starfish. The thing I love about it is the shape. It is super different and you don't see a lot of pots like this.
