Clay, Grey Glaze

My idea was to make an elephant. I first started out with a big bulky chunk of clay and molded it into legs and a stomach. I put the stomach on the legs and realized the stomach was too heavy so I carved it out. Then, I made the head, the ears, and the tail and added that all on. Finally I added the tusks and then I dried them out. Then after it was dried out, I glazed it with some grey metallic looking glaze. Some of the tools that I used were I used a metal needle a lot to make the legs look realistic by shaving them until they looked good. This artwork is expressive and is supposed to show the beauty of elephants. The most difficult thing for me was to make the ears not as big but not too small. Some of the things I did that I had to overcome was to make the tail not fall off. It kept on falling off, so I had to glue it on. If i had to change one thing about my elephant, that thing would be to not make the leg of the elephant hollow so it doesn't crack. This project is abstract because it is not what an elephant actually looks like. The thing I like most about it is the color. I like the color because it came out looking rustic like.
