13x10.3, pencil & alcohol markers, 2023
The idea was the perfect getaway with a twist. You always see the perfect girl, on the perfect water, with a perfect life. My twist is the pencil drawing of the sea monster below. About to ruin her perfect day. The idea evolved as I didn’t even think about making the drawing look like a postcard; the greetings from paradise didn’t even come to me until half way through the drawing. I started by splitting the drawing in half and sketching the top half and drawing the bottom half in full pencil. I simply could not make the dinosaur so I had to print the picture and trace my sketch onto the paper. For the top I had to really erase my sketch so you couldn’t see it through the marker. I then added the sky with markers and colored pencil. There was an initial thought behind the artwork. It's trying to warn you to see the truth behind the beauty in things. Do we really know what's going on? Or have we seen the full picture? Again the most difficult thing in this drawing is the dinosaurs on the bottom. I had to trace my sketch onto the paper and then try the same shading. I wouldn’t change anything if I could start over except the From on the words. I really hate it and wish I tried harder. There's no real art style but this kind of shows how I draw things in my style. I can get super creative when it comes to animals or objects. However when it comes to people it's a lot messier. I did try a pin up style with the girl but she was mostly shades from her lips to hand. I didn’t put much thought into her except that she was “perfect"

There wasn’t really a thought process behind this. I went wherever the drawing took me. It started off as a drawing of an anglerfish that I really liked then I just added more animals from the midnight zone. I used mostly chicken scratching, smudging pen ink, and stippling. There were no tools except the one pen I used. This artwork means nothing. I love the ocean and I draw animals from it. I want people to see this drawing and think wow I love the creatures of the ocean and then walk away. If people like my drawing then they'll remember it. However I made this for myself not for others to think about. The most difficult part had to be drawing the shadows around the border. I didn’t really know what to do so I basically copied my other project from the first semester and made the angler fish make a circle of light. If I could change anything it would be the size I made the giant squid. I wish I had made it bigger. This is kind of realistic. I mean you can tell what the animals are but it's not like photo realistic. I believe it's my own style as I used a lot of lines to make something. That's what I usually do as I don’t really go for big things. I love that this piece is just so free. Everything everywhere and I just love sea creatures. (Sea creatures left to right: Vampire squid, siphonophore, atolla jellyfish, angler fish, Gulper eel, and colossal squid.)
19.5x14.5, oil pastels, 2023
My artwork was inspired by the hit movie 20,000 leagues under the sea. As the giant sea monster was very inspirational. It was supposed to start out with you barely being able to see the sea monster to it being the main piece of the artwork. I started by lightly drawing the person falling and then the sea monster. I then just started with the darkest part of the ocean. Then going up and making the water lighter. Then finally drawing the sea monster. I just used oil pastels and I guess I just kind of blurred everything. The meaning is very prominent in the story, as you can really tell what it is when you look at the artwork. It's kind of showing the feeling of sinking down into the depths of something bigger than you. Like, when things get out of hand and you just fall and can’t control anything. I think the most difficult thing to do was get the pastels in really small spots without overlapping. It would just use the bottom of the pastel or a smaller version of the same color. I think I would change the bottom of the water to be a lot darker because that really bothers me. The art style isn’t really realistic but had the sort of sense of that. It's a lot more cartoony or fake but you can tell what it is and it's like really close if you squint your eyes.
So I really wanted my print to fit with my overall theme but not perfectly. This resulted in images I found a few weeks ago. Sharks with Human teeth. So my print was inspired by a collage of sharks with human teeth. I first carved my sketch into a styrofoam little holder. I then put ink on it and stamped it onto the paper. Hold it down for a bit and then take it off. This is just a silly little paper to make people smile. I could not get the paint to get on the paper correctly. I didn’t really overcome it, I just kind of went on and rolled with it. If I could start over I would try to make it straight. I guess you could say it's in a cartoon style. What makes it unique to me Is I gave him a big ol’ eye. I love his teeth. They make him look very goofy
