Brooklyn Dykstra "Printmaking"
9x12", Ink and paper, 2023
My idea was to print out a lizard. I asked some of my friends about the idea. They picked out the lizard. I traced this lizard because I knew it would pop on colored paper with dark ink.
The first step I did was to find a picture on the internet. In the second step, I printed the lizard out. After I printed the lizard I traced it on a styrofoam plate. The last thing I did was pick out 3 colored paper and roll ink on the styrofoam. Then I pressed the paper on the styrofoam with ink. These are all the steps to creating a printmaking design. The tools that I used were colored paper, ink, and a roller to roll the ink on the paper.
This printmaking has a lot of memories of when I went to Florida and saw lots of lizards. I love drawing animals and getting to make an animal I saw on a family vacation was a fun experience. It is something to look forward to later in my life and to remember the time in high school when I made this.
Some things that were difficult in making this was the ink was drying fast and was ripping my paper. Another difficult thing was if you added too much ink it wouldn't print out your your print. Some ways I overcame this struggle were starting over and trying again. If I had to start over I would try to make it look clear and use more tropical colors.
My style for this art was to make it look clear so that you could see what this print was. What I love about this printmaking is how the Lizard print came out on the paper. I was worried that I put too much ink on styrofoam and the print wouldn't be clear. What I love about this printmaking is the time I spent tracing the lizard on the styrofoam.
