My idea was to create a pond with koi fish. Mrs. Garrity gave us a an assignment and it was to make a 3d painting. I got my idea off of google. Before i started this project, I grabbed my materials. The materials I needed were clay, trimming tool, paintbrush, slip cup, and a needle tool.
My steps for creating my 3d painting. My first step was, to get a big ball of clay. Then, I took the clay to teh slab roller to make it flat. Next, I grabbed a bowl and used my needle tool to cut around the bowl to make a perfect circle. Then, I use the left over clay to make the fish and the Lilly pads and flowers. With the extra clay i started to make the fish. After I made this fish I used slip to connect it to the platform. After I made the kio fish i used the extra clay to make the lily pads and flower. Then when it was removed from the kiln and glazed it with 3 different color glaze.
My 3d painting shows a koi fish swimming around in a pond. I want my audience to think about nature and the peaceful feeling of being by a pond with fish in it.
Something I found difficult about this project was connecting the koi fish to the platform. I didnt want to ruin the koi fish. How i over came this struggle was I put wet slip on a paint brush and used it to get in the creases of the platform and the koi fish to connect it. Something i would change if I had to start over is putting more effort on the flower. I struggled on making the flower look realistic.
The style of art is realism. What makes it unique is the water, the blue glaze made a cool water look to it. Something I love about my artwork is how well the colors go together.
My idea was to make a bowl. The bowl can be used to hold jewlery, necklaces, or hold keys. At first, my idea was to make a cup on the wheel, but as i worked on it, it started to widen out, so I decided to turn it into a bowl. The materials I used was clay, needle tool, sponge, and rib tool.
My steps for creating the bowl. My first step was to grab a softball size ball of clay and make it into a smooth ball. After that I grabbed all the materials needed. Then I used a wet sponge and got the base of the wheel damp. I smacked the clay down on the wheel hard so it sticks on to the wheel. Then using my right foot I pressed on the pettal lightly so it moved slowly. Next I got my hands wet then used both hands to make the ball smooth on the wheel. Then I poked both my fingers in the middle of the clay to make a hole. used those fingers to widen the hole and using one hand on the outside to give it some support so it doesnt fall.
Something I found difucult about the wheel was getting it to be shapped like a cup. We were assigned to make a cup but every time I was building it up it would turn into a bowl. How I over came this struggle was asking questions and moving my handplacment.
What makes this project unique is the texter on the bottom of the bowl and the colors. Something I love about this is that the bowl can be used for many things like eating, put jewlery, keys or change.
My idea for the Magnet was to make grapes. The Magnet is used to hold photos on the fridge. At first, my idea was to have just one grape and paint it green instead of purple but then I got the idea to make a whole grape and paint it purple. I used clay, needle tool, and slip.
My steps for creating this magnet. First I grabbed a little bigger than a golf ball size amount of clay. After that I grabbed all my tools, the needle tool and slip. When I was done grabbing all my materials. I split the ball of clay in half. Then I made a base for all the little grapes. Then started making coils of clay and cutting them in small peices. After I was done doing that I rolled them up into little balls then added them to the base that I made. After that I put it in the kiln then painted it.
Something I found difficult was getting all the little balls of grabes to stick to the base. How I overcame that struggle was adding slip to the ball then adding a little pressure when adding it. I was scared that when It would be fired the balls would fall off. But since I added slip and added pressure everything stayed.
What makes this project unique is that its a magnet, so i can display my artwork on the fridge and actually use it.
My idea for this project was to make a large gnome. At first, my idea was to make a duck but I struggled making the ducks face so instead I just turned it into a gnome. The tools I used to make this project was needle tool, rib tool, sponge and water, slip, and a coil maker.
My steps for creating this large vessel. First I grabbed all my matirals. After that I grabbed a big ball of clay. I rolled that clay into a long ball. Then but it in the coil maker. When I was done making coils I grabbed more clay to make a base. I used a ice cream bucket to trace out a perfect circle for the base. After that i used my coils to make the wall of the large vessel. I used a rib tool to smooth the outside and inside. After I was done making the wall I used more coils to make that hat. When I was done making the whole project I glazed it.
Something I found difficult was making the hat stick out. How I overcame that struggle was using coils and made one layer then used my rib tool to connect it to the hat, then used my fingers to smooth it out.
What makes this project unique is the texture of the beard. I was going to paint the beard on but I thought it would add to my project if I used my needle tool to add texture.
