Ian Curtis
18 x 24, acrylic paint, 2020I got this idea from my favorite Joy Division album Unknown Pleasures. I started by painting the background then I moved onto painting Ian Curtis the frontman, sitting on the amp and I finished it off by painting the waves in the back. This painting symbolized my love for the album. The most difficult part for me was painting the waves in the back and making sure they were straight and lined up nicely. I think this style of art is realism.
Just Breathe
18 x 24, acrylic paint, 2020My idea was to paint part of the cover of one of my favorite albums by Pearl Jam. The album is called Backspacer and it is a collage of different pictures... each picture goes with one of the songs on the album. My favorite song on the album is Just Breathe, it is a song about being positive. No matter how hard you have it you always have something to be grateful for and that song is like a reminder to me that things could be worse. I started by painting the background black and painting the words at the top, then I painted Earth in the corner and lastly, I painted the spaceman playing the drums. The most difficult part for me was the shading on the spaceman. This work is realism and it fits my style because I like to do my artwork based off of music that means something to me.
I saw a painting of a peacock with beautiful feathers and it inspired me to do it, but on a cat because I am a cat person. I started by drawing the eyes and the eyelashes, then I painted the eyes green. Next I just messily painted brush strokes with light paint and went in with dark and lastly went back in with light paint colors. When someone sees this artwork I want them to think of happiness. The most difficult part was making it known which parts of the painting are the face of the cat. I think this style is surrealism.
