Nature Collage

Collage, 2022

I got this idea because I love to do pieces that focus on Nature. I picked collage for a medium because I had never done a collage before. I started by collecting pieces from a National Geographic catalog. I  Messed around with the placements of the pieces and it took me a while to find where I wanted everything placed. I glued down all the background pieces and then looked for some good blending pieces. I found mushrooms and thought they were a great way to make the tree look more blended into the background. This piece was definitely a struggle because I am someone who typically likes a step by step schedule and with collages it is very "go with the flow."

Best Buds

Colored Pencil, 2022

I got this idea from a picture I took this fall. My boyfriend Tobey and my youngest brother Dallas have a very special bond that I captured in a photo and I knew I  had to draw it for my next project. Doing a drawing that is sentimental makes it so much more fun to create. I started by tracing the photo and  color swatching. I have always struggled with skin but I think I did a good job making their faces identifiable. Next I did the hair. I knew I had to do a good job making Tobey's hair look realistic because it is one of his most recognizable features. Dallas' hair was very hard to draw because of his curls. It took a lot of layers but I finally got it to look just like his. Next I did the clothes. I like the way the camo pjs were green because they add some good color to the drawing. Lastly I did the background which I wanted to mute a little so Tobey and Dallas stuck out the most.

Tiger

Acrylic Paint, 2023

I decided to do a theme of wild animals this semester. I wanted to do a tiger first because it is my favorite animal. I started by painting the background dark green. I then sketched an outline of the tiger. I started by using a light beige color for the base of the tiger. Next I went in with a light orandge color for the pain parts of the Tiger. After that I went in with a darker brighter orange to do the low lights and get the shading and angles right. After that I started doing the stripes. The stripes around the neckline were the hardest and most important. I then went in with a some white paint to do the chest and to highlight the head and face. Lastly I did the whiskers and the eye. The whiskers were tricky because they were white and being painted on white so I had to give them a shadow with some black paint. I wanted to make the eye green to tie in the background.
