This full-year class is recommended for 11th or 12th grade students considering admission to selective post secondary colleges or universities. This class will emphasize literature analysis, writing, and an examination of language. Presentations, critical thinking, and discussions are expected to gain a deeper understanding of class texts.

This class will focus on preparing for postsecondary application. Students will complete college searches, work on their Common Application, and write their college essay. Through this course, students will review writing basics and read books 1-3 of The Once and Future King.

Students will engage in a demanding curriculum emphasizing language study, writing, and literature analysis. They will study the influence that a country or region’s history and culture have on the text and examine the universal questions that the classics raise. The literature studies will provide a base of knowledge for post-secondary study. Possible texts include The Once and Future King, Much Ado About Nothing, Flowers for Algernon, and Frankenstein. This class is for 12th graders or 11th graders who are planning on Early College.

This integrated class will provide opportunities for students to write across the content areas. Students can earn ELA Language, Research, and Writing proficiencies, as well as various proficiencies from other content areas.

Bioethics will allow students to delve into a variety of controversial issues in society. Students will focus on issues through the lens of current scientific research, while also focusing on societal influences in the making of ethical decisions. In examining the morality of situations, students will formulate arguments based on scientific research, paying particular attention to supporting evidence. In addition, students will include in their arguments influences that are more difficult to quantify, such as background, personal experience, and religion. Students will also study literature, investigating how authors make connections to science and civilization and how science influences culture. Possible titles for study include The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and Flowers for Algernon.
