My Philosophy

My goal is to provide each child with an enjoyable, enriching educational experience and a learning environment that will foster academic, social, and emotional growth.

Discipline & Classroom Guidelines

The less time that is spent on discipline, the more time there is for teaching. Please stress positive behavior with your child. Many problems can be handled by our classroom behavioral plan. However, if a problem is continual or more severe, I will be contacting you for help in resolving the situation.

Our classroom will establish specific criteria that fall under four categories:
      Respect Others and Yourself
      Respect Your Classroom and School
      Help Yourself and Others Learn
      Work and Play Safely

We will create specific criteria for these guidelines and send home a copy to be discussed and signed. Students are expected to follow the criteria they created and exhibit positive behavior. Each week, we will discuss school and learning expectations. We will set and discuss goals for ourselves. At the end of the week, we will evaluate how we performed on the expectations and reflect upon our goals. Each day, the students will be expected to write one gratitude and one reflection during their day.

Students will be encouraged and expected to strive for primary greatness and build a growth mindset. These ideals will strengthen and promote integrity, work ethic, treatment of others, motives, level of initiative, along with their own character, contribution, talents, creativity, and self-discipline. The students will have many opportunities to earn character coins. These coins will be awarded for returned homework, extra credit, being helpful, and expressing positive behaviors. The coins may be used on Friday to purchase prizes, awards, homework passes, etc. The students will also have the opportunity as a class to earn extra free time, rewards, and even parties.

Sunrise stumbling blocks may be used for students who reflect extreme inappropriate behavior or fail to follow the rules. The student will fill out the stumbling block and miss part of their recess to discuss the behavior; the stumbling block will be sent home and must be returned the following day with a signature.  Mrs. Healy, our principal, will be notified of the behavior.

Remember, the less time we spend on discipline, the more time we’ll have for teaching.  Please stress positive behavior with your child.

Homework

Homework is assigned most every night. Their yellow homework folder will come home daily and will likely contain their weekly HW newsletter with a spelling page attached, a ½ sheet math-fact practice (Mon-Wed only)  and possibly (rarely)  a math skills practice page. The math-fact page and/or the practice page need to be returned the following day. The homework newsletter with a spelling page attached is sent home the first day of the week and is due the last day of the week. The newsletter will have a place to write down the reading-minutes homework. Please sign the newsletter by Friday to indicate the student has read the required 20 daily minutes.
Students must return the completed fact sheet on time, completed the spelling practice, have read at least 60 minutes, and have a parent signature in order to shop in our class store.

Please assist your child in developing the responsibility of completing and returning the assignments.

Please see the HOMEWORK page for more specific details.

Absences & Tardies

Please notify me or the front office (435-563-3866) if your child is absent or will be tardy.

If your child will miss school due to a vacation, trip, funeral, etc, please inform the teacher and the office in advance

Birthdays

Birthdays will be recognized in our classroom; summer birthdays will be given a specific date during the school year. According to school policy, treats should not be brought into the classroom and birthday invitations are not to be passed out in the classroom.

Stars of the Week

Each week, two students will be chosen as our “Stars of the Week”. Information regarding this program will be sent home the week before your child will be the star student.
