Students will have the opportunity to earn credit for working part-time! Whether you need help securing a job or already have one, our Work Experience Coordinator will help you become workforce ready and continue to reinforce employability skills by connecting classroom learning to successful workplace skills.
Students must be co-enrolled in a business course and will meet with the Work Experience Coordinator during an informal classroom setting for mentoring. Students will earn between one-half (.5) and 3.0 credits depending on the number of hours they work.

Job Shadow Opportunities Grades 9-12
Several students who have an interest in the law field visited Family Court in Riverhead. The 2-day job shadow experience provided them with great insight. During the experience, they observed trials, learned about different careers within the court system and spoke with Judge Harkin who provided them with a greater understanding about what his job entails and the skills needed to excel in that role.

The Summer Internship Program, run by NY State Certified Work Experience Coordinator Michelle Rapone, provides students the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience and make connections in professional fields they are considering for career paths. Pictured is Katerina Papandon, who interviewed and secured a 6-week internship at SCOPE Educational Services this summer. After her impressive interview, Patricia Walsh, Deputy Director for Finance, offered Katerina a paid internship. She is “extremely pleased with her professionalism and efficiency in completing any project she is tasked with.” Katerina attributes her understanding of the programs she’s working with at SCOPE to learning accounting and Microsoft Excel in her business classes. This summer internship program is one of a few work-based learning opportunities that help prepare students for career readiness.

Isabella Kaspiev was selected to intern at The Quintessential Experience due to her passion in the financing industry and strong academics, along with teacher recommendations. She impressed Executive Vice President, Edward Kotak Jr. with her interviewing skills and continued to pique the firm's interest as she was offered employment following the internship. Additionally, she was involved in shadowing the interview process and client meetings, and assisted in daily operations in the marketing department. "The connections I made, and the education I received through the classes I took with the financial advisers were all so important, and I valued it tremendously."

"I joined the HEAL Clinical Certificate Program because I was seeking experience in the medical field. This virtual analysis of case studies sprouted my passion for helping those in need and has motivated me to pursue a career in biomedical engineering. I was thrilled to log on to these free, virtual classes weekly that allowed me to have the perspective of a medical professional, diagnose patients and test my knowledge at the end of each class. My favorite session was based on an illness called dystonia that affects the nervous system and movement of an individual. Soon after that, my grandmother was diagnosed with dystonia, and this made me realize how applicable this experience was to me personally, as well as academically, as it added merit to my college applications and interviews."
