Mr. Sean Reidy
Elementary Schools
Mr. Reidy received his bachelor's degree in music performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University, where he studied upright bass under Mr. Stephen Lester of The Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He earned his master of music education in 2007 from VanderCook College of Music. Sean began his music-teaching career at Roald Amundsen High School in Chicago where he was the director of orchestras and music department chair of Amundsen’s International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
Sean’s core teaching philosophy aligns deeply with the El Sistema model; he was immediately drawn to CCSD93 through the strength and potential he saw in both this district’s diversity and strategic plan of maximizing the academic, social and emotional potential of each student. Sean maintains active relationships with CSO, CYSO, Blue Lake, Interlochen, El Sistema Chicago via ChiMop Orchestra and The Negaunee Institute of Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Sean was recognized by CPS and Chicago Symphony Orchestra as an educator of distinction from 2018-2022 via 4 consecutive Creative School Fund grants via CPS office of Ingenuity and Negaunee Institute of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. These merit-based grants, written by Sean and Chicago Symphony Orchestra, raised over $200k for the purchase of experiences, instruments and implementation of 2 new orchestra programs in high-needs CPS elementary schools. Sean is the recipient of the 2014 Daniel and Patricia Jorndt Joy of Teaching Award, donating half the $15k cash award immediately back into the music and science programs of Amundsen High School.
Sean currently resides in Elmhurst with his wife and 4 children.
