The air is crisp and we ready to begin a new month.  With this month brings jackets and warmer weather gear.  Please make sure all winter attire is labeled with your child's name.  You child should be able to get their winter clothing on by themselves.  Please practice zipping up jackets, putting on gloves and boots with your children.  These are all great independent skills that each of your children should be trying to acquire these skills.  Here are a few videos on how to do this.  The rule for playing in the snow is to have boots and snow pants if your child would like to play in the snow.

What We’re Learning in Math

In Kindergarten, we are exploring numbers in many different ways! We are learning that numbers can be shown using numerals (like 5), words (like “five”), objects (like five blocks), pictures, and even tally marks. We are practicing counting, recognizing numbers, and understanding that numbers represent quantities.

You can support your child at home by noticing numbers around you — on signs, in books, or while cooking and playing. Ask your child to show numbers in different ways and talk about what they notice!

Today we celebrated the 50th day of school.  We had fun counting to the number 50 in many different ways.  The children were able to sort numbers that were less than and greater than 50.  We even read a book that compared the 1950's with children now.  The highlight of the day was when the children had a hula hoop contest.  The children have definitely learned so much in our first 50  days of school.

We introduced the students to a new era of music by listening to 50’s music. We also learned how people in the 1950's dressed  and did some activities that were done in the 50’s. The children were able to create some 1950s glasses. As we designed the glasses we were able to practice counting to 50 by creating groups of tens dots. After creating our glasses, we practice counting to 50 by tally marks. We also were able to create patterns using two colors pink and black.  We got the opportunity to improve more of our math skills on the carpet where we had two hula hoops. Each hula hoop had a great than 50 or less than 50 in the circle and the students needed to differentiate between greater than 50 and less than 50 with all the numbers. At the end of the day, the students in all of kindergarten got to participate in a hula hoop competition. We had so much fun hula hooping and competing with one another. We also took the time to learn some dance moves from the 1950s.  We had a blast today!

We are cruising into November with a lot of speed. I am very pleased with  all the progress the students are continuing to make.   We are working hard to learn all of our letters and sounds.  We are also beginning to write and label words in our journal.  Keep working hard at home to help and support your child here at school.  Thanks to many of you who are completing the blue and green papers for homework.  During math time we have been starting to explore shapes, writing our numbers and counting items.  We will have conferences at the end of the month and I look forward to catching up with you all about your child's progress.

Loyola Shirts

We are looking good in our Loyola shirts!  Thank you to our PTO for helping us afford these amazing shirts.   We will wear them on Friday's so be ready next Friday to have them ready to wear!  :)

We are thankful for..

We tried a new website this week.  We learned about book creator and made an ebook to share with all of you. Please view the ebook we created for what they were thankful for.  Using book creators gives the children the opportunity to upload images and audio, and create their own images. The students were able to express through visuals what they were thankful for.  These videos help the children describe what they learned through their personal experiences. We were able to share the ebook and videos they created with the class.  What are you thankful for?

🦃This week, our class teamed up with our 5th-grade buddies for a special 🦃Thanksgiving writing project! Together, the children brainstormed and wrote creative “How to Make a Turkey” stories. The kindergarteners had so much fun sharing their ideas — from silly steps to very serious cooking instructions — and the older students helped them turn their thoughts into full stories.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to practice speaking, listening, and early writing skills while building relationships with their big buddies. We’re excited to continue collaborating with our 5th-grade friends throughout the year!
