Happy Ground Hogs Day
We started out February learning about Ground hogs day today! We had fun talking about if the ground hog saw his shadow and what that meant! We made a pop-up book about Ground Hogs day as well. In math we rolled dice and added numbers together to cover up the ground hogs on the page.
Calendar Book
We started our calendar books after winter break! We are working hard on numbers that come before a number or after a number. We have learned about skip counting and starting at different numbers while we skip count. ie(15, 20, 25, 30) We have talked about Even numbers and Odd numbers. The clock has been a huge topic of discussion. We have learned basic telling time on an analog clock as well.
Guided Reading
We have been working on guided reading in small groups, and it has been such an important part of the children’s growth as readers. They are learning and reviewing how to sound out words, practicing rhyming words, and building independence by reading stories on their own. I can truly see their confidence growing each time we read together!
During guided reading, students also rotate through centers where they practice sight words, work on rhyming skills, and respond to the books we have read in small groups. Comprehension is a very important focus as well, as we talk about characters, setting, and what is happening in the story. I am so proud of the progress they are making!
We are so grateful to have retired teachers and volunteers joining us during center time. Their support allows me to meet with small groups for focused instruction while the rest of the class continues meaningful learning at their centers.
With extra helping hands in the room, students stay engaged, receive additional guidance, and benefit from the experience and wisdom our volunteers bring. We truly appreciate the time and care they share with our classroom community from Mrs. Kruger and Ms. Peggy.
President's Day
In honor of Presidents’ Day, our kindergarten students spent time learning about the important role of the President and some of the leaders who have helped shape our country. We talked about what it means to be a good leader and how leaders help others.
The students enjoyed learning about two famous presidents, George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We read stories, shared interesting facts, and discussed how these presidents showed bravery, honesty, and leadership.
If only being the president
was this easy!
