January and the New Year is here!
I hope everyone had a wonderful break and had some time to rest and relax with your family. Our first few weeks back has been amazing! I was so happy to see all the children and they were happy to be back.
We discussed goals and resolution's today in class. We talked about the New year and what that brings. It brings a clean slate and new learning for each of them. We watched this video about squirrels New Year and what he would like to do for his resolution. After that the class wrote very interesting resolutions for themselves. Take a look a few of them.
I wish my goals could be that simple. Hahah
What is your New Year's resolution? Have you talked to your family about yours? Come up with a goal you can achieve and feel proud of!
Guided Reading Stations
We have begun our guided reading time during the week. We meet with different groups to focus on reading strategies and practice reading together. While I am working with a small group, the rest of the class is engaged in phonics games and writing about their reading.
Shapes in Math
During math time we worked in groups to create something while using each one of the blocks that were assigned. Each group came up with some very unique designs and objects.
The Pledge
Each class gets a turn to lead the Pledge of Allegiance in the office for the entire school. Well… our time finally came! The students were very excited to show the school that they could confidently lead the pledge. They were so proud of themselves—and to make it even more special, they also got to lead our Loyola cheer for the whole school on Friday!
Jan Brett Projects
Thank you for working so hard on your Jan Brett Projects! They all look amazing. I know there are a few friends that still need to work on their projects and send them .... If that is you please do so soon as I am using these for a communication grade this semester. The students did a wonderful job learning about an audience and how to present to others. So proud of them!
Math
Our new math lessons have computer lessons. The students really like the lessons that are interactive with the computer. Students explore addition and subtraction in a real-world situation for the first time. They add and subtract given a starting quantity and observe how the total or difference is determined. Then students observe a starting quantity that is added to or subtracted from and determine the total or difference. This lesson allows students to explore the operations of addition and subtraction while preparing them to interpret and represent addition and subtraction in math stories with real-world situations.
Students will work on building their conceptual understanding of addition and subtraction in a real-world situation.
