Math Lesson on the computer
In today's math lesson the students enjoyed learning about numbers and decomposing numbers in different ways. Students continued their work with decomposing numbers. First they explored decomposing a number represented pictorially in more than 1 way. They then composed a number represented abstractly in more than 1 way. Compositions and decompositions are presented pictorially and abstractly to encourage students to look for patterns, such as when 1 addend increases the other decreases, and to use this information to determine if there are other possible decompositions. Students are not expected to find all the possible compositions or decompositions of a given number.
Welcome to March and Spring. We are heading into the last part of the year strong. We are working at a faster pace and continuing to grow in math, reading, science and social studies. We had our progress reports go home this week. Let's work hard and make the end of the year great!! Many fun activities coming up this spring, so be sure to watch for papers that come home to be informed.
We have been working on writing more and more during our journal and writing time. We have been practicing using the word because to help extend our thoughts and add more detail to our writing. I have loved reading about all the things the children love and are passionate about—it’s been so fun to see their personalities shine through!
Please continue to work on complete sentences at home with your child, especially as they begin bringing home their new writing homework. Your support makes a big difference in their growth!
WE LOVE..
WE LOVE.........
After we wrote in our journals, the students worked on their language skills by reading about all the things they love. It was wonderful to see them sharing and talking about so many different interests and passions!
Playing board games with our buddies was so much fun! We got to try new games that we had never played before. Everyone was excited to learn the rules and figure out how to play. While playing, we practiced taking turns, following the rules, and being good sports whether we won or lost. Some games made us think carefully and solve problems, and other games helped us work together with our friends. It was wonderful to see everyone laughing, learning, and enjoying time together. We can’t wait to play more games and continue having fun while learning important skills!
