The aim of our exploration of this text is to provide you with a level of understanding that allows for various possible lines of inquiry for an HL essay based on this text (if you so choose).
This unit be structured as a seminar aimed at providing a broad overview of the text. This will require a fair amount of independent research and work at home.
If needed we may revist aspects of the text at the beginning of year 13 as a review
Over the summer I would like you to read "Death and the Maiden" in its entirety. The links below will give you some important contextual information about the Pinochet regime in Chile and the transition to democracy afterwards. This contextual information is important to understanding the play.

Act 3 Harkness preparation instructions:
You are going to prepare for your Act 3 Harkness for HW. All instructions are outlined in this PPT
STEPS:
1) Examine the act in detail - make notes, post-its etc. Check out slide 7 of the PPT for guidance on this step
2) Generate some questions and observations based on your observations and ideas in Step 1. Check out slides 8-9 of the PPT for guidance on this step
3) Create an A4 sheet of notes, ideas, questions, quotations etc. to help guide you in your Harkness discussion. You will only have these notes and your text to guide you. No computers allowed.
4) Email me your notes page by 8:15am on Monday, Aug. 28th - Make sure your name is on the sheet. I will print them all and have them ready for our discussion
5) Come prepared with post-its and pen/pencil/highlighter for taking notes and adding ideas to your notes sheet.
6) DISCUSS!! You all did amazing in the Act 2 discussion. I was so excited I ran and told all the other English teachers how awesome you were. You should all be super proud of yourselves. Yay Learning!
