Welcome to your final year of IB English Language and Literature HL. Your studies in Year 12 have allowed you to improve your skills in literary and non-literary analysis, essay writing, guided textual analysis, seminar discussions and oral presentations. You have studied novels, poetry, film and various non-literary texts.
In addition to your IO, the study of these texts has also been in preparation for the major IB assessments that you will be undertaking this year.
With the IO over, we will now be moving away from focussing on Global Issues and move towards the High Level Essay and exam preparation.
You will be complete three major assessments this year
1) The High Level Essay (20%) - 1200-1500 essay on a text and line of inquiry of your choosing. You may write on any literary or non-literary text we have studied except those used in your Individual Oral.
2) Paper 1 (35%) - A guided textual analysis on 2 previously unseen non-literary extracts.
3) Paper 2 (25%) - A comparative literary essay on 2 works we have studied based on one of 4 set questions. You may not write this paper on any text you have used in your IO or HLE.
Success in your Year 13 studies will require careful time management. Be sure to break up your assignments into small chunks and to meet all deadlines set by your teacher. If you require additional help or cannot meet a deadline, be sure to follow CCS deadline and extension procedures and let your teacher know well in advance.
