All summative and some formative assessments in this course, whether school based or formal IB assessments, will be marked using detailed rubrics. The resulting IB levels (1-7) on these assignments is determined using past IB grade thresholds.
It should be noted that you will not always receive a 1-7 IB level on assessments. This is because I want you to focus on the criterion expectations and specific skills and content that you can improve on rather than focusing on a specific grade level that you want to achieve.
The IB publishes detailed assessment criteria for externally assessed SSST exams and the IO. Being able to understand the expectations of any particular assignment is the first step in presenting your best work and creating a final submission that fully meets the requirements of that particular assessment.
Read over the criteria for each assessment carefully before you start writing and planning. Think about how you will address each different focus area.
Revisit your past assignments and look at comments given by your teacher in each different criterion. What strategies can you put in place to address these comments and suggestions?
English assessment rubrics for each assignment can be found in the drop down menu to the left. You can also find a breakdown of each assessment criterion in your language of study in the various mother tongue course guides linked in the left hand menu.
