Subj: MODERNIZE MCJROTC RIFLE RANGE

1. Request purchase of an automatic targeting system for the air rifle shooting range. This equipment will modernize the MCJROTC program and update the shooting range to be more efficient.

2. Background: Eastern View High School was built with the JROTC program in mind. The plan included a uniform storage facility, two classrooms, an armory, and a rifle range. Since then, our Air Rifle Team has sent many cadets to national competitions, colleges, and universities on air rifle scholarships. Most Olympians found their start within the JROTC program similar to ours. To create a more competitive program that can compete against other schools, we will need to look at modernizing the rifle range.

3. Current System: With our current system, the air rifle range is manually scored with pen and paper. It takes time to set up the range, and install the paper targets, and after every relay is fired, the cadets are required to swap out the targets. This process takes away valuable time and instruction. The cadets spend about 40% of their after-school time setting up targets vice training. In addition, when there is a miss, there is no way to know that the shooters miss their targets unless Coaches stop everything to inspect the paper target. The automatic scoring system will allow the cadets and instructors to focus on teaching and training. Also, the display monitors will enable spectators and shooters to see their results in real-time. The most important thing is that coaches and safety officers can instantly see a missed target and make corrections in real-time.

4. Desired System: The cost for the new automatic system is about $8,812.49. (PowerPoint and Cost Estimate attached.) This will include the cost of shipping and handling. There is no installation fee. We will need facility managers to mount the two TV monitors. The automatic targeting system will allow the range to accommodate four cadets at a time. The new system will modernize the current capacity to be more efficient and productive, enabling CCPS and MCJROTC to achieve core missions.
