The Junior Regional Orchestra (previously known as Central Regional Orchestra) is a two-day intensive junior orchestra designed for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students hailing from the Richmond metro area and areas as far north as Fredericksburg. It offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with peers from across the region and forge new friendships.
Admission to one of two orchestras is determined through a competitive audition process held annually in early January. Auditions encompass major scales, a prepared piece selected from Advanced Technique for Strings, and sight-reading. Following auditions, the event occurs approximately three weeks later, spanning one weekend. Members are recognized with a medallion and certificate. Additionally, JRHS members earn 2 points toward senior honor cords.
