Start your conference by getting your body moving and mind calmed with slow flow yoga! This 45-minute class will connect breath to movement in a slow vinyasa style and include a meditation component. Taught by Erin Austin, an E-RYT 200 RYT 500 yoga instructor and French teacher in Fort Collins, this flow is suitable for a wide variety of bodies, ability, and experience. Erin will offer a range of options so that participants can tailor the flow to their body's unique needs.

About: This session will show participants how acquisition driven instruction (ADI) can be used to teach to the IB (International Baccalaureate) curriculum (ab initio and standard level). An example unit in French for both ab initio and standard level will be presented, as well as an outline and supports for building a four year IB curriculum. Participants will also come away with ADI (acquisition driven instruction) strategies to use to foster true acquisition while preparing students for their IB assessments. This session is also relevant to those who teach AP (advanced placement). Note that the example units and lessons will be in French, but the presentation will be in English.

About: How often do adults claim that after studying Spanish for years, all they can say is "¿Dónde está la biblioteca?" or "Una cerveza por favor"? Teachers hope that students do not have this experience as an objective of language classes is for students to effectively communicate with Spanish speakers in the community and beyond. By intentionally planning with and incorporating high-frequency vocabulary, students’ communication skills can improve, and teachers can accomplish the goal of speaking 90% in the target language. This session will present Acquisition Driven Instruction/Comprehensible Input (ADI/CI) strategies that can be used in working toward these goals.

About: Aurora Public Schools (APS) is shifting from grammar-focused teaching to research-based practices for higher language proficiency. Guided by the Principles for Language Learning, APS aims to increase target-language interpersonal tasks.
With a grant from World Languages 360 and Extempore, APS implemented the Extempore platform to support teachers in developing and assessing students’ skills across communicative domains. This platform simplifies managing interpersonal activities in class.
This presentation highlights Extempore's use at a large district high school, showcasing features, teacher-created activities, and assessment tools. It includes data on usage and feedback, demonstrating its impact on interpersonal communication skills.

This session will use Lin-Manuel Miranda's Encanto as well as other video productions to explore authentic examples of language and culture in different productions to expand student interpersonal and presentational language and culture skills beyond classroom and neighborhood borders. Discussion will include building language skills, cultural awareness, and empathy. Session will include multiple examples of cultural validation, teacher discussion and collaboration, and work time for participants to develop their own lesson plan(s).
