ELA:
Our HMH Into Reading modules are broken into three weeks.
There will be weekly quizzes at the end of each week and an end-of-module test that covers ALL three weeks at the end of each module!
The weekly quizzes will cover the weekly stories read in class, accompanied by the reading skills we learned in class.
The big end-of-module test will have NEW stories, and all of the reading standards covered in the module will be tested, as well as all spelling word patterns. Students will not need to review the stories for this test; please focus on the skills from all three weeks.
What can I do to practice at home?
Practice the current Spelling pattern/s - We have a spelling test at the end of each skill week! Only the spelling pattern will go home--there will be no spelling list to go home!
Read and/or listen to our weekly reading story - it is posted in Google Classroom (GC), or it can be searched on the HMH ED platform in the Elementary tab in Classlink. We have a reading quiz each week!
Practice reading skills in I-Ready and Khan Academy.
Read (free-choice) for at least 20 minutes EACH night! This will help with increasing vocabulary, spelling, and overall comprehension.
Here are the foundational phonics skills we will be covering during the school year: Anchor charts
The current spelling patterns & "heart words" can be found on the HMH Weekly Focus sheet (in your child's folder) in front of the current Module IXL skills sheet. Spelling word patterns should be reviewed throughout the module. There will be a cumulative spelling test in the module test! Heart words will be tested as part of the reading fluency portion on the module test as well, and should be reviewed.
Writing:
Each quarter, a type of writing will be the main focus--narrative, opinion, informational, and expository/research. On the writing test, the grammar learned in class will be assessed, as will a writing piece. (In general, the big writing test falls around the end-of-module reading tests on the calendar.)
Math:
Our I-Ready math units are broken into lessons. Each lesson is broken into daily sessions that build upon each other, with a weekly quiz over the lesson after all sessions have been completed.
The weekly quiz usually falls at the end of each week. There also will be a cumulative mid-unit test and then an end-of-unit test that covers ALL weeks at the end of each unit.

Xtramath (Great for individualized math fact practice!)
Although I-Ready is mostly used for math, we also use part of the program for reading games.
Science /
Social Studies:
Stemscopes is our science curriculum tool and can be accessed through Class Link. I will post resources in Google Classroom, and there will be a quiz over the topic after all lessons have been completed.
Studies Weekly is our social studies curriculum tool and is accessed through Class Link. Studies Weekly also has a paper newspaper/magazine that is read in class and sent home in folders to be used as a study guide. I will post resources in Google Classroom, and there will be a quiz over the topic after all lessons have been completed.
Science and Social Studies topics usually alternate, where one subject is focused on at a time.
Helpful Videos:
Click on the buttons to watch videos to see how to access assignments on different programs outside of Google Classroom!
Pro tip: If you are trying to access your child's Google Classroom, you must first sign out of your account in the top right-hand corner of Google or use "incognito" mode!
(You can switch Google accounts very easily by clicking on your account in the top corner, causing a drop-down menu to appear, and clicking on your child's name.)
If you do NOT, you will not access your child's Google Classroom (GC)!
