Welcome to the Thunderdome, Kiddos!

"All of my classes are designed to develop creative problem solving skills across every discipline. Let's face it, not every student will honestly become living artists-- but what everyone can take from any of my classes is the ability to think creatively for solutions, and never stop trying to solve a problem because one solution didn't work."  -- Harris

WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR THE 1ST WEEK OF SCHOOL?

Remember, these pages give you generic information about the Google Classroom and the AP Studio Art Portfolio. These are NOT where assignments will be posted. To find the "actual" classwork/notes/assignment/lectures, login to YOUR specific google classroom. Use the Google Classroom link above to get the code for your specific class, and if you have ANY questions, send me an email.

***UPDATE*** Photography here at EHS for the 2020-2021 school year is being merged into Graphic Design. Photography will be taught as part of the standards for Graphic Design in the intro class (so don't worry... you still get photography). In theory, it will work more efficiently as the AP Studio exam has transitioned to the AP Art & Design exam, emphasizing the merger of photography and graphic design together with traditional mediums.

Graphic Design

The moment you open your eyes, graphic design is playing a role from the cereal box you grab....to the way you shop .....to the new things you notice, and the things you remember

In this, Graphic Design fuses photography, typography, psychology, and design principles to creatively problem solve and communicate in our visual world... sometimes without us even realizing it *wink*

AP Art & Design

"The AP Art and Design program (previously AP Studio Art) consists of three different AP courses: 2-D Art and Design, 3-D Art and Design, and Drawing. Students may choose to submit any or all of the AP Art and Design Portfolio Exams.

Students create a portfolio of work to demonstrate inquiry through art and design and development of materials, processes, and ideas over the course of a year. Portfolios include works of art and design, process documentation, and written information about the work presented."    --- from the College Board Website

 ..............

Basically... this is a college art class. It is freedom and pressure mixed with higher standard of skill level than that of regular art classes (.... and boy oh boy... it is a lot of work). In this course, I expect you to rise to that of a college student in art school. Digital Art is now included in this course, so if you are interested, keep pushing through levels I and II of Graphic Design to submit a portfolio your 3rd year.

Luckily, if you can trust in me and trust in my process, we have had 100% passing scores for ALL AP Studio portfolios submitted in the last 5 years.

WHO CAN TAKE THIS?

You are welcome to sign up for the course, but a portfolio review will be done to assess skillset upon admittance in the course. Digital Artists (photography and graphic design students who have completed 1-2 years in those courses) are welcomed into this studio based college class.
