Sit in Silence
Our world is chaotic and always in a hurry, and many of us find it difficult to stay still. However, only when we are silent can the God who is good meet us. To rephrase the words of the psalmist, to know that God is "good," we must be "still."
Find pockets of time within your day to sit in silence for at least 5 minutes. If it will help you ease into the moment, grab a warm cup of coffee or tea and find a comfortable chair. Relax and sit in stillness.
Tips for practicing stillness in everyday life:
Carve out space in your day to pause, quiet down, and “just be”.
Find pockets of time in between breaks or at the end of each task.
Create some extra time by getting up a little earlier in the morning or leaving a couple of minutes sooner for your next appointment
Know that it is common to catch your mind running to and fro during periods of silence. Because it’s not used to being still, it keeps on looking for problems to solve. To help with that, try the following:
List down all the things you need to do and all the things that are bothering you. This will help to calm your mind.
Take in three deep breaths to begin.
As you enter into silence, pray and ask God to be with you in the process.
