DISCIPLINES

Spiritual disciplines are exercises meant to create spaces for God in our daily life. Practicing spiritual disciplines in itself does not make us more holy nor does it make us earn God’s favor, rather, it helps create the necessary conditions for us to connect with God authentically and intimately. When done consistently and regularly, they help train and transform our hearts.

Spiritual disciplines are activities, not qualities. They are practices of the wise, not characteristics of the righteous. They are things for us to do, not things that define our identity. They are not meant to bind us towards legalistic religiosity, rather, they introduce us to delight in being with Christ.

For many Christians, prayer, fasting, as well as meditating on Scripture are familiar examples of spiritual disciplines. Alongside these core disciplines, other practices can also help us in our growth as disciples. Let's explore some of them!
